WELCOME
We post sketches from this trip in the comments:
Steve had stepped outside to sketch Charlie Chan's restaurant, in bold, confident strokes. Meanwhile I was inside Juggo Juice desperately picking lines in the jumble of the street that is Kensington at that corner to find a perspective. Half an hour was it, and despite the hesitation, a sense of urban crossing, and the image of a hub of activities appears. I will quickly fill in the sketch to finish it, and I hope by then Steve will have posted his. He did come in finally with numb fingers. We had escaped the worst of the cold front after weeks of balmy weather, but it was still vintage Calgary nippy outside.
Alison and Sarah had to leave us early. Alison had to make her way to work. They had spent their half hour sketching each other, and this should come on this site as well. Steve and I decided to make our way to the Kensington LRT station, and stopped at coffee shop a block from the station where the action inside served our inspiration. Soon Steve should have his "inspiration", and by then I'll be sure to have added a little colour and maybe filled a few weak lines.
Finally, we hopped on the train and went to meet Alison at work. She put a booth aside for us, brought some sake, and by then we barely had any time for any real sketching. This is what we ended up with.
It is so much enjoyment sketching with friend. We are still finding our pace, and soon we'll bring a sincere commentary on our city.
